Christopher Chance is the twelfth episode of Human Target, and the finale of the first season.
Synopsis[]
- "Christopher Chance is the guy you go to when no one else can help."
When clients of Chance's old boss capture and interrogate him about an assignment when he was an assassin, Chance, Winston, and Guerrero recall the events that led up to their unlikely partnership. That includes Chance's meeting Katherine, whose death drove him to adopt his current profession. Lee Majors appears as the previous man to employ the Christopher Chance alias.

For the first season finale, series composer Bear McCreary assembled a 94-piece orchestra, the largest in the history of episodic television.[1] He re-recorded the title theme specifically for the episode.
This was the last episode for McCreary. With the change in showrunner, direction, and budget for the second season, he was not asked back as the production couldn't afford his orchestra weekly.[2]

- Junior lists a number of men going by the name "Christopher Chance" when telling the older Chance what he found while looking for him:
- bodyguard in Minneapolis, died in 1927
- bodyguard in Nashville, died in 1954
- bodyguard in Brooklyn, died in 1975
- The concept of "Christopher Chance" as an alias passed down amongst bodyguards is a reference to the title "Human Target" being used for two different characters in the DC Comics, Fred Venable and Christopher Chance. Venable appeared as the "Human Target" in two stories in the 1950s. Chance has been the main character of the "Human Target" stories since the 1970s. It's also a reference to Chance, both comic and television versions, assuming different identities to protect their clients.
- The casting of Lee Majors as the previous Christopher Chance plays off of the actor's action television history. Majors is best known as the title characters bionic Steve Austin and stuntman/bounty hunter Colt Seavers from the 1970s series The Six Million Dollar Man and the 1980s series The Fall Guy, respectively.
- Though mentioned again in Season 2, this would be the only appearance of the Old Man in the series.
